Chelsea's Resolution Resolve participants have those goals in sight

Okay my friends, what's the best is that all of our participants are really making fitness a lifestyle. So this is why this contest is awesome. So I give you all props!

But my girls are fantastic as well. And what I love the most about Jeanel and Mary is that each of them are learning to make their fitness long term and their results progressive and life long.

Jeanel and Mary are both learning to look at their schedules for the week and see how they can fit their workouts in. Jeanel is logging her calories and also noticing how certain choices make her yearn for "not so good choices" the rest of the day. She is also understanding that getting in shape takes a great amount of work and effort and heart. And it will never stop and knowing what she is working for is what keeps her motivated. So she has set a goal to improve her times for the Splash and Dash and each day she strokes away in the pool to see the seconds disapear.

Each have set goals that are realistic and meaningful to them and understand that what's important is the entire process of getting in shape. Since Mary has set goals and has begun revamping her nutrition, she is seeing her mid-section widdle away! Woohoo! She is training with me 2 days a week and now is taking classes at Quarry Lake and making stretching a priority.

So all of you fellow resolutioners, good job..................and keep watching your backs for my girls. And in the spirit of competition, may each of our participants become more heathy and fit every day of this competition and for sure in the future!

Meet our Members!! Carol and Mike Woodward

Meet our Members! Introducing Carol and Mike Woodward. We are so proud they are members -- and so proud of their success!!

How long have you been a member?
My wife and I have been members since September of 2006. We retired from teaching at the Texas School for the Blind in July of 2005

Why did you choose Pure Austin?
We chose Pure Austin because it is where felt that it had the kind of atmosphere that we were most comfortable. The facilities have a large selection of equipment to meet our needs. The staff is always friendly at the desk when you sign-in. The people who are members are also friendly and seem to be goal motivated to improve their overall health. The members vary in age from the young to the elderly, I turn 66 on February the 20 and feel great. We love the location, we are about 15 minutes from Pure Austin, and no one under the age of 18 was also a selling factor.

What kind of workouts do you do? How regularly?
We try to do a total body workout using a variety of equipment three times a week. We try to use different equipment each time we come in so that our routines won’t get boring.

Who do you do them with?
My wife and I come in together in the morning on MWF and start with the aerobic equipment upstairs and then move downstairs to use the weight equipment during our routines. Our goal was to loose weight when we started and to improve our overall wellness. My wife has lost over 40 lbs. and I have lost over 30 lbs. We both feel better since we have lost the weight, our health has never been better.

Our goal is to maintain our good health and enjoy life. This is our motivation. We are very happy with our results and plan to continue our membership and workouts even when we are on trips.

Here's the email I just got from Drew! (PS, Drew is a new Fitness Specialist with Pure Austin. He is awesome. Check him out!)

Hey,

I just wanted to give you a heads up that my guy for the resolution resolve contest is going to win... seriously. This guy is way committed and is doing awesome with communication and sticking to his guns with workouts, and he's keeping great meal logs and workout logs!!

Just to give you a taste here are some of the measurable criteria we're going off of...

- Being able to compete in the lower cat races at the driveway race series.

- Having a measured improvement in LT tests over the four months (we've already done initial test).

- Being able to..."Shave my legs and not feel like a poser." (Best one by far).

- Measurable decrease in weight from current 210 lbs.

You can use this for media if you want but I just wanted to shoot it your way and let you know it's goin' great. Thanks!

-Drew

Meet our Members!! Tyson

We are excited to feature our members!
Meet Tyson!

Hi Tyson!
How long have you been a member?

3 years.

Why did you choose Pure Austin?

I originally chose Pure Austin because it was close to home and it was clean and well maintained. But more importantly, I continue to choose Pure because over time I discovered that there is a sense of community that makes it truly unique from any other gym. For me the gym is not just a place to exercise, it has become a place for me to grow as a person, always working towards new goals. It is clear that the staff take a genuine interest in helping me push beyond my own expectations to achieve both a healthy body and spirit. And I’ve met some great friends in the process who also share similar goals and interests.

What kind of workouts do you do?

When I work out alone, I like to focus on a few muscle groups at a time and mix in some high energy bursts on the treadmill or rowing machine between reps to get that extra calorie burn. I also love to take morning clinics (“boot camps”), because working out in a group setting motivates me to get out of bed early and push myself a little harder while I work out. I love to take classes that incorporate plyometrics, such as kickboxing.

How regularly?

My goal is to be in the gym 4 times a week and do something outdoors on the other 3 days. In the summers, I prefer to workout outdoors as much as possible.

How do you feel?

I feel great. I spent too many years as a younger adult not taking care of my body. Not only have I noticed a difference over the last three years, but so have my friends and family. I have more energy, more confidence, and telling myself “You can’t do that,” is no longer an option.

Do you have workout goals for the next year?

My goal for this year is to maintain a more consistent workout routine and do a better job of planning my workouts in advance.

What keeps you motivated?

It’s never a scale or a measuring tape. It’s always how I feel. I can tell when I’ve slipped up; I start to feel sluggish and down. I know hitting the gym or running or biking the trails will help me maintain balance and energy.

What time of day do you workout?

I try to work out first thing in the morning. I like the energy and confidence that it gives me throughout the day, and it frees up my evening for all those unexpected plans or late nights at the office. Plus, I get the most benefit out of a high-protein breakfast right after working out.

What do you do for work?

I own a lighting showroom, Legend Lighting Inc. We sell traditional and contemporary lighting, ceiling fans, and custom lighting designs.

How do you manage to keep your workouts a priority?

The more I am stressed at work, the more I need to exercise to maintain balance in my life. And these are stressful times for all of us! Oddly enough, I think being busier makes it easier for me to make my workouts a priority because I know that if I don’t consciously plan for them, they won’t happen. I feel more energetic and more focused throughout my day if I started it in the gym.
